Cindy Pilchuk is a Registered Nurse and Certified Child Life Specialist with over 23 years of experience working with children and families individually and in group settings. Cindy’s focus is on healthy child development and coping, whether working directly with the child or with parents/caregivers. Cindy’s expertise is working with both parents/caregivers and children ages 0-12years.
For parents/caregivers, Cindy supports them in your transition to parenthood and supporting post partum depression and anxiety; supporting the parent-child relationship and attachment; and in understanding and supporting your child’s behaviour or experiences with anxiety or depression; and managing concerns in the school setting. For children, Cindy supports children who are struggling with medical issues such as needle phobia, dental procedures, or upcoming procedures; childhood anxiety and stress management; depression; and difficulty with social interactions and relationships.
Cindy is good at building a trusting and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship with the child at the centre of all interactions. Cindy believes that therapy is a partnership that supports growth and healing.
Cindy is trained and experienced in a variety of modalities such as Self-Reg, Collaborative and Proactive Solution, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Narrative Solution focused therapy, Trauma-informed play therapy, and many other therapeutic play and medical play techniques. Cindy has completed her Masters of Science in Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care – with a focus on children and stress, additional Certificates in Self-Reg (Foundations, Facilitators, Resilience), and is currently completing a Doctorate in Child Study and Education at University of Toronto, Ontario Institute of Studies in Education – with a focus on how discipline in the school setting affects children’s mental well-being.
